Brian Anthony Gonzales, 24, was detained somewhere outside of the city of Los Angeles, LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said. Additional details were not available, and as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday he had not been booked.

Gonzales was accused of fatally shooting Emily Fox and Jerrad Cardae Scott around 4:20 p.m. Sunday in the 7600 block of Oso Avenue.

Fox had called 911 to report her ex-boyfriend was at her residence and had a gun, but by the time officers arrived, she had been killed, a preliminary investigation showed.

Jerrad Cardae Scott is shown in a photo posted to his Instagram account on Dec. 31, 2015.

She was a 22-year-old California State University, Northridge student who planned to go into the field of law, neighbor Lisa Lyons told KTLA.

Scott, a resident of La Mesa in San Diego County, left behind a son who was about 1 year old, a friend said.
