An arrest has been made in connection with the stabbing of a man who died after he was found lying on the street in an Anaheim residential neighborhood, authorities announced Monday morning.
The victim was discovered shortly after 8 p.m. in the area of a Perdido Street and Cerritos Avenue by a passerby who called 911 for help, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“Deputies arrived. They found the victim lying in the street suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds,” said Lt. Jeff Hallock with the Sheriff’s Department.
After performing CPR on the man, paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries, according to Hallock.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, had multiple wounds to his stomach and chest.
Police have arrested 27-year-old Ruben Martinez, who was initially detained at the scene.
Investigators believed that Martinez and the victim got into an altercation on the street that ended with the victim being stabbed, according to a Sheriff’s Department’s news release.
It was not immediately clear what led to the dispute. Authorities were still trying to determine if the two men knew each other.
Martinez was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Orange County Jail, the release stated. He was being held on $1 million bail.
