A man died Saturday morning after a traffic collision that caused a street closure for hours in Fullerton, police confirmed.

Fullerton police said in a post to social media that officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at 9:09 a.m. in the area of Commonwealth Avenue and Brookhurst Road.

Officers found a gray Honda CRV at the scene that collided with the underpass near the intersection.

An unresponsive man, identified as the driver, was tended to with lifesaving efforts but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.

He may have possibly suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash, law enforcement officials said, but the confirmation will be made by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

A female passenger was transported to a hospital for treatment. There was no immediate word on her condition.

Both directions of Commonwealth Avenue were closed between Brockhurst Road and Basque Avenue in the aftermath of the crash, but it was reopened by 12:45 p.m.
