An investigation was underway Friday into the shooting death of a man on the westbound 210 Freeway in Sylmar, authorities said.
Someone opened fire on the victim just before 1 .a.m. and left him to die, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“The initial signs right now point to some kind of a road rage incident on the 210 Freeway westbound here,” LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said. “It appears that the shots probably came from the driver’s side.”
Police believe the shooting happened somewhere on the freeway between Polk and Roxford streets.
The victim, who appeared to be dressed for work, may have driven a short distance after being shot, police said.
He was found sitting in the vehicle on the off ramp at Roxford Street.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to render aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The westbound 210 Freeway was closed for several hours as officers searched for clues.
The LAPD and the California Highway Patrol were investigating.
