Man fatally shot outside Arby’s in Hollywood during suspected drug deal

A man was fatally shot Monday outside an Arby’s restaurant in Hollywood in what appears to be a drug deal gone bad, police said.

The shooting was reported around 12:50 a.m. at 5920 Sunset Boulevard in the restaurant’s parking lot.

When officers arrived, they found a shooting victim unresponsive inside his vehicle in the lot. The 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department said. He has not been identified.

Police said the victim may have been robbed.

The gunman, who was wearing a dark hoodie, fled the scene southbound on Tamarind Avenue from Sunset Boulevard on foot. He had yet to be found Monday morning.

LAPD initially told KTLA it appears the shooting followed a drug deal gone wrong, but provided no further details.

Video showed police and paramedics surrounding a sedan stopped in the Arby’s parking lot, which was later blocked off with police tape.

Sunset Boulevard was closed for hours in both directions between Bronson Avenue and Gordon Street as police investigated.

Authorities did not have a more detailed description of the suspect available and no further details were released.
