Man seen apologizing to victims from stretcher following possible DUI crash in Long Beach

Two cars were involved in a violent crash that sent both careening into a building, and video from the scene captured one of the people involved in the crash screaming his apologies.

The collision happened near East 7th Street and Rose Avenue in Long Beach just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning when a vehicle driven by a man smashed into another vehicle, causing both to crash into a business.

One of the vehicles involved was carrying a family, according to stringer service O.C. Hawk. None of the family members were seriously injured.

The driver of the other vehicle – who was its sole occupant – was hospitalized for his injuries; video obtained by KTLA shows the man telling the victims he was sorry as he was being wheeled into the ambulance.

His apology did not seem to be accepted by the family.

The unidentified driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to preliminary information.

Firefighters were seen attempting to stabilize the building shortly after the collision. It is expected to be red-tagged due to the damage sustained in the crash.

The initial cause of the collision is under investigation.
