A man was shot multiple times at a youth football game at Colony High School in Ontario late Saturday morning.
The shooting occurred about 10:45 a.m. The Ontario Police Department responded to a shooting on a field where a “non school sponsored event” was being held.
Police later clarified that the man, who the Associated Press said is 34 years old, was shot on a sidewalk between the field and parking lot. Police added that the man is from Pasadena.
Footage from the scene shared with KTLA showed multiple bullet casings in that area, including in the parking lot directly behind the bleachers.
The victim was struck multiple times, and he was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, according to Officer Sequoia Payton.
“It’s a beautiful morning and it really was turned sour with all of this outside commotion, confusion, and it’s trickled off into our community, our neighborhood and really caused a feeling of unsafeness,” neighbor Felicia English said.
The suspects fled the scene after the shooting, and they remain at large. The number of shooters involved and the motive remain unknown, Payton said.
Police said there was no threat to employees or students at the school.
“I’m grateful my kids are safe, I’m grateful all the Colony kids are safe, but this whole community needs to feel safe,” English added.
