A man died following a shooting in a residential neighborhood in Temple City on Friday afternoon, and his adult son was detained for questioning, officials said.

The gunfire was first reported shortly after 3 p.m. in the 4900 block of Halifax Road, according to Deputy Erin Liu of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau.

“Upon their arrival, the deputies discovered the victim inside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso,” Liu said in a written statement. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Another man who was at the home, described as the victim’s son, was detained and taken to the sheriff’s Temple Station for questioning, Liu said.

No further details regarding the circumstances of the shooting were released Friday night.
