Man struck, killed by vehicle during dispute in Long Beach, police say

A man was fatally struck by a vehicle during an argument in Long Beach Sunday morning, according to police.

The man, only identified as a 59-year-old, was “involved in a dispute that escalated when the suspect struck the victim with a vehicle,” the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.


The victim was found at Santa Fe Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway just before 9:30 a.m. in critical condition with “injuries to the upper and lower body,” police said. He succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital.

The driver, meanwhile, fled in a vehicle before officers arrived.

“The motive and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation,” police said.
