Man Suspected in Washington Gas Station Killing Turns Himself in to Authorities in L.A.

A man suspected in a fatal shooting at a Tacoma, Washington gas station earlier this month turned himself in to authorities in Los Angeles Monday night, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department released these photos of Robert Grott on Feb. 4, 2016.

Robert Deshawn Grott, 29, who investigators believe fled to Los Angeles following the shooting, surrendered to local authorities at about 8:35 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

Grott’s brother, 22-year-old Rashaad Dominique Grott, had already turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood station on Feb. 3.

Rashaad Grott admitted to driving with Robert Grott to Los Angeles from Tacoma, Washington, the news release stated.

On Feb. 1, Robert Grott allegedly opened fire, killing a man in broad daylight, at an Arco gas station, Tacoma-based newspaper The News Tribune reported.

The victim, Julian “Jay” Thomas, was struck about 10 times during the attack, which was witnessed by dozens of people, police told the paper.

Robert Grott was wanted on a Washington State arrest warrant for murder. He was also wanted on a federal arrest warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution.
