A man is accused of kidnapping and raping a woman before he was arrested early Saturday following a seven-hour standoff at his San Gabriel Valley home.
Aaron David Martin, 32, was ultimately booked on suspicion of rape, kidnapping and false imprisonment, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials and booking records.
The incident began just before 7 p.m. Friday when officials received a report of a kidnapping at a home in the 200 block of Covina Boulevard, in the unincorporated county area of Bassett, Deputy Erin Liu of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement.
Deputies encountered a woman who had suffered “visible injuries” and said she had been kidnapped, Liu said. It was not clear how the woman managed to escape.
“According to the victim, the suspect held her against her will and sexually assaulted her,” Liu said. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The suspect went inside his home and refused to come out when deputies approached, Liu said.
Crisis negotiators were summoned to the scene, officials said. Martin came out of the home and surrendered about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Further details regarding the alleged kidnapping and attack were not available.
At the time of Friday’ suspected crimes, Martin was already out on bail and a awaiting trail in connection with a separate criminal case, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.
He was charged in January with burglary and making criminal threats, records show. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail pending trial.
Following Saturday morning’s arrest, Martin’s bail was set at $460,000 pending his initial court appearance, scheduled Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, records show.
