Seven people were injured, including a Maserati driver who was in critical condition, after a crash in Lancaster that involved multiple vehicles and pedestrians Wednesday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The chain-reaction crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Challenger Way at East Avenue J-8, a news release from the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The Maserati was traveling in a northerly direction on Challenger when a Chevy Impala made a left turn in front of the vehicle and collided with it, according to the release.

A Ford Fusion then struck the Chevy following the initial crash, which caused the Maserati to spin into a light pole on the street corner and strike four young pedestrians between the ages of 2 and 14 years old, the Sheriff’s Department said.

A total of seven people were injured in the collision and hospitalized.

The driver of the Maserati was listed in critical condition, according to authorities.

Two of the pedestrians suffered moderate to serious injuries, but their conditions were not immediately known.

The other four people — two drivers and two pedestrians — sustained minor injuries.

No further information has been released about the crash, which remained under investigation.
