Northridge Woman Recounts Challenges of Being First Asian-American Woman to Serve in U.S. Navy

Susan Ahn Cuddy was the first Asian-American woman in the U.S. Navy`s Waves program.

She joined in 1942 and served during the cold war. Part of her duties included breaking enemy codes.

She later became the first female gunnery officer and eventually reached the rank of lieutenant.
