A person died in a car crash Saturday morning after a driver allegedly ran a red light in Lancaster, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision occurred at 9:42 a.m. near the intersection of Avenue J-8 and 20th Street East, authorities said.

A woman was driving a Mitsubishi Outlander southbound on 20th when she ran a red light at the intersection with Avenue J-8, according to the sheriff’s department. She then collided with an Infiniti G35 containing multiple passengers in the intersection.

Multiple people were trapped inside the Infiniti, authorities said.

One person, who a passenger in the Infiniti, was partially ejected from the car. They were later pronounced dead at a hospital. No identifying information was immediately made available.

The conditions of the others involved were not released.

The sheriff’s department said the cause of the crash was being investigated, although speed was not thought to be a factor. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol use could have contributed.
