One person was arrested and another was detained early Saturday after a double stabbing left a man dead in a quiet residential area of Sherman Oaks.
Police initially responded to an apartment complex in the 15000 block of Dickens Street after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 6:40 p.m. Friday, according to Officer Rosario Herrera with the Los Angeles Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a white man in his 20s who was unconscious but breathing suffering from stab wounds, said LAPD Lt. Jim Gavin.
The victim was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to Gavin.
A second victim suffered minor injuries and was in stable condition at a local hospital, Gavin said.
Based on preliminary information, investigators said that four people had been gathered in the courtyard when a fight erupted that ended with two being stabbed.
None of the individuals appeared to live in the complex and authorities were looking into why they had been there that night.
“Preliminarily, it does not appear that any of these individuals have any ties to this particular location or any residences nearby,” said LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman. “So our investigators are trying to determine why they were here, what they were doing here and what prompted this altercation that resulted in the death of this young man.”
Authorities have not released the names of either of the victims or those in custody.
