A substitute teacher in La Habra is out of a job after she voiced her concerns over a moldy classroom to a school’s administration, she said.
Julie Coelho says she’s been reporting a moldy classroom administrators at Olita Elementary School for years, but hasn’t received a response.
In an Instagram page called @SpeakUpForStudents, Coelho documents her experience with the issues at the school, showing results from an at-home mold test, a bathroom designed for disabled students that has rotting wood and a corner of a classroom with a “crunchy” floor.
Coelho, who clearly had enough of the issues, officially quit her job as a substitute teacher last week.
The school’s principal claimed in an email sent to the school’s community that the site has been tested by an outside company, and the results for mold came back negative.
She added that the only positive result was wood rot, but claimed “that should be no surprise to anyone.”
