A pedestrian was killed after being struck by his own car in a hit-and-run in Griffith Park Saturday afternoon, and a woman has been arrested on a murder charge in the incident.
The collision, which occurred at about 3 p.m. in the 2300 block of Fern Dell Drive, involved a light blue 2006 Lexus, The Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release.
The crash followed an argument between a man and a woman, after which the woman got into the car and drove off, the Los Angeles Times reported.
On Sunday, police said the investigation showed 70-year-old Valeriy Saakyan lost his footing, fell and was purposefully run over by his own car, which was driven by 32-year-old woman Sonia Sovereign.
Video footage provided to KTLA showed medics working on Saakyan in the middle of the street before he was taken away by ambulance to a local hospital.
Saakyan was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
On Sunday, the LAPD announced that Sovereign had been located and taken into custody. The car she was driving had “traffic collision damage and a blue tarp over it” when officers spotted it at about 10 a.m. in Hollywood, police said.
She confessed and was arrested for murder, and is being held in lieu $1 million bail.
