A USC student is dead after he was struck by a vehicle that was believed to be street racing in Exposition Park Saturday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Police and Fire departments.
The man, who was initially believed to be between 20 and 30 years old but was later identified as being 18 or 19, was a student from Iran.
He was crossing the street near his Jefferson Boulevard home and was in a crosswalk when he was hit by what appears to be a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, according to police.
The drivers of the Dodge and the other vehicle, an Infiniti, are being detained and their cars are in custody, according to LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno.
“You have two cars, possibly from two local car clubs that are known for racing, doing the street racing, so we’re still piecing that together, but unfortunately, it’s something you’re seeing a lot more of nowadays,” Moreno said.
An ambulance arrived to help the man, according to the LAFD. However, the victim is believed to have died at the scene, as no one was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
