A person is dead after being struck by a driver operating a City of Los Angeles-owned vehicle on a freeway in North Hollywood Tuesday night, officials said.

The collision was reported about 10:30 p.m. on the northbound 170 Freeway near Victory Boulevard, said Officer Cruz of the LAPD.

Cruz confirmed that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, and Officer Kimball of the California Highway Patrol confirmed that the person was fatally struck.

No information has been released about the identity of the person who was killed, or what led up to the crash.

Initially, law enforcement officials indicated that the pedestrian may have been struck by an LAPD-marked vehicle, however investigators later determined that was not the case.

“The follow-up investigation has determined it was NOT an LAPD vehicle involved in the collision, contrary to initial media reports,” the LAPD tweeted Thursday. The tweet stated that the vehicle involved was owned by the City of Los Angeles.

No information was provided about the identity of the driver who was operating the vehicle.

Aerial footage from Sky5 Wednesday night showed an extensive line of cars being forced to exit the freeway as authorities investigated the collision.

The SigAlert was canceled as the roadway reopened shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
