Dirt bike rider flees officers into the hills above the San Fernando Valley

Law enforcement pursued the rider of a dirt bike who fled from police in Glendale Friday evening and may have later escaped into the darkness of night.

Authorities say the rider sped away from an attempted traffic stop for reckless driving along the 134 Freeway at about 9:45 p.m.

The rider turned off his headlamp as he led officers northbound on the 5 Freeway through the eastern San Fernando Valley. He eventually went off road into the hills above Sylmar, where he appeared to stop to talk with a UTV driver, Sky5 footage showed.

KTLA ended its live coverage due to darkness at about 10:15 p.m. It was unclear whether the rider was taken into custody.
