A 51-year-old Corona man was arrested after police discovered more than 1,600 marijuana plants inside his home, police announced Saturday.

Yong Ting Yan, the sole occupant of the house, faces charges of cultivation and sale of marijuana, and theft of a public utility, according to a press release from the Corona Police Department.

The discovery was made about 7:45 p.m. Thursday when detectives were conducting an investigation of a possible marijuana grow in the 300 block of Villafranca Street (map) , the release said. The residence is in a gated community just south of Magnolia Avenue.

Investigators found the plants, which were in various stages of growth, along with more than 5 pounds of packaged marijuana for sales, police said. The potential street value of the pot was estimated at more than $2 million.

Electrical lines at the location had been tampered with, presenting a possible fire hazard, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Senior Detective Tony Meyer of the Corona Police Department at 951-736-2348.
