A man who allegedly tried to break into car in Pacific Palisades on Friday ended up battling officers and lifeguards in the ocean waters before being taken into custody.

Police were called to Will Rogers State Beach when a witness reported that a man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol failed in an attempt to break into a car, Christopher No, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The man allegedly became aggressive with officers before running into traffic on Pacific Coast Highway and in and out of life guard towers, according to No.

Eventually he climbed down some rocks and started walking in the rough surf along the coast, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

Authorities and life guards entered the water and surrounded the man, who became combative, the video showed.

Eventually the man was dragged out of the water and taken into custody.
