A woman was taken into custody Tuesday after a hit-and-run incident left a cyclist injured in Costa Mesa, authorities said.
Pratiti Renee Mehta, a 33-year-old Costa Mesa resident, was arrested for felony hit-and-run resulting in injury after details about the incident were posted to social media, the Costa Mesa Police Department announced.
Police officers and fire officials responded to the scene near the intersection of Red Hill Avenue and Bristol Street at around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
The 56-year-old male victim suffered a compound ankle fracture and was taken to a nearby hospital, Costa Mesa police said.
The agency released an image from surveillance footage showing a black vehicle traveling behind the cyclist, as well as a still that captured the car after the incident.
The Police Department announced Mehta’s arrest in a statement released Tuesday evening.
“We appreciate the public’s assistance; this was a great example of ‘see something, say something.'” the agency said.
