Police Shoot, Injure Man While Responding to Reports of Burglary in Hollywood

Los Angeles police officers shot a gunman in Hollywood early Saturday after he fired at the officers who were responding to a burglary call, police said.

The officers received a radio call about 10 a.m. that someone was burglarizing a vehicle near the intersection of Wilton Place and Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, police said.

When the officers arrived, the man produced a handgun and fired at officers in the 5000 block of Lemon Grove Avenue (map), police said. The officers fired back, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital. No officers were injured in the incident.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area because the shooting is still being investigated. No further information was available.
