Remains Discovered Under Residence in Santa Ana Determined to Be Animal Bones: Police

The 600 block of South Broadway Street is seen in a Google Maps image.

Remains excavated from under a Santa Ana home on Monday were determined to be those of an animal, authorities said Monday.

The Santa Ana Police Department initially received a call around 10:55 a.m. regarding possible bones beneath an elevated home in the 600 block of South Broadway Street, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Homicide detectives and the Orange County coroner’s office were called out to investigate, police tweeted Monday.

But by 9 a.m., officials determined the remains appeared to be those of an animal — not a human, the department stated in a follow up tweet.

With no evidence of a crime committed, police cleared the scene.

Broadway from Bishop to Richland streets were temporarily closed amid the investigation.
