A traffic advisory was issued by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with President Barack Obama’s Thursday and Friday visit to the L.A. area.

The president arrived at Los Angeles International Airport shortly after 4 p.m. alongside California Sen. Barbara Boxer and Rep. Ted Lieu of Torrance.

He traveled via helicopter — on Marine One — to Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, then was transported via a motorcade that traveled for about 25 minutes on  surface streets toward Hollywood, where the president arrived about 5:05 p.m.

Obama entered the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” studios in Hollywood. He was later expected to attend a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Santa Monica.

Obama’s departure from LAX was expected Friday morning.

As with previous visits, motorists were being warned of street closures and possible traffic congestion as a result of the presidential motorcade.

At 4:15 p.m. LAPD specifically told drivers to avoid the area of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, near where the Kimmel show is filmed, for three to four hours.

LAPD has advised drivers to avoid the following areas of the city at the following times:

  • The area around Sepulveda Boulevard between Lincoln Boulevard and Century Boulevard from 3 to 5 p.m.
  • The area around North Hollywood Way between West Empire Avenue and North Glenoaks Boulevard from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
  • The area around Sheldon Street between Roscoe Boulevard and San Fernando Road from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
  • The area around Highland Avenue between The Hollywood Bowl and Sunset Boulevard from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • The area around Ocean Avenue between Pico Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
  • The area around San Vicente Boulevard between Ocean Avenue and 25th Street from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
  • The area around Ocean Avenue between San Vicente Boulevard and Pico Boulevard from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • The area around Overland Avenue between National Place and Tennessee Avenue from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
  • The area around West Pico Boulevard between Overland Avenue and Century Park East from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
  • The area around Avenue of the Stars between West Pico Boulevard and West Olympic Boulevard from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

A hard closure of Sepulveda Blvd between Lincoln Boulevard and Century Boulevard will be in effect for a roughly 8-minute period between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Other hard street closures included:

  • Hollywood Blvd between North Orange Drive and North Highland Avenue from 4:25 to 5:45 p.m.
  • Hawthorn Avenue between North Orange Drive and North Highland Avenue from 4:25 to 5:45 p.m.
  • 20th Street between Marguerita Avenue and Carlyle Avenue from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
  • 19th Street between Marguerita Avenue and Carlyle Ave from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Avenue of the Stars, 1 1/2 southbound lanes from Galaxy Way

MTA buses were also expected to be affected by the street closures, LAPD said. Buses Nos. 156, 212, 217, 222 and 312 will be rerouted and have alternative stops during the closures.

Impacted riders were urged to call MTA for a list of the alternate locations.

On Friday, the following streets closures will be in effect before the president’s departure:

  • The area around West Pico Boulevard between Avenue of the Stars and Westwood Boulevard from 6 to 8 a.m.
  • The area around Overland Avenue between West Olympic Boulevard and National Boulevard from 6 to 8 a.m.
  • The area around South Centinela Avenue between Pico Boulevard and Ocean Park Boulevard from 6 to 8 a.m.
