The attack happened around 11:25 p.m. Aug. 15 as the victim, Carlos Arellano, was walking home from a music festival in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard.

The 22-year-old was confronted by a Hispanic man in his early 20s who wanted his skateboard, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

When he refused to give up the skateboard, Arellano was beaten and stabbed.

He later died at a nearby hospital.
