San Bernardino gunshot victim IDs attacker as felon, deputies say

A convicted felon from San Bernardino is back behind bars after deputies were alerted to a gunshot victim at a local hospital.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was at San Bernardino Community Hospital on Friday to be treated for a gunshot wound, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The man had been shot once in the back during an altercation with Abraham Nunez, 41, in the 2700 block of Macy Street in Muscoy, officials said.

On Wednesday, authorities found Nunez at his home in San Bernardino, and when searching the residence, K-9 unit Koa detected a firearm.

“Koa alerted on a satchel inside of Nunez’s bedroom, which contained a loaded 40 caliber handgun,” the release said. Nunez was arrested and faces three charges:

He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $1.33 million bail. While police said that $1.33 million encompasses all three charges, jail records show it’s just for the allegations related to Nunez being a felon. The assault charge is listed with a separate $100,000 bail.

Nunez is due to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on Friday.
