Officers responded about 8:46 p.m. to Pine Avenue, near Mill Creek Avenue and Chino-Corona Road (map), where a 2000 full-size Chevy truck, 2002 Honda Civic and 2013 Honda Accord had collided, according to a news release from the Chino Police Department. Two of the three vehicles were engulfed in flames, the release said.

The five deceased victims remained unidentified Saturday morning, pending an ongoing investigation by the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.

The driver of the Civic suffered injuries that were not life threatening, and was not transported to a hospital.

“Any causal factors … the road conditions, or the conditions of the vehicles before the crash, is still yet to be determined,” said Cameron Olden, spokeswoman for the Police Department.

Pine Avenue remained closed between Mill Creek and Meadowhouse avenues as investigators collected evidence at the crash site.
