At least one Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy opened fire and killed a man who had apparently fatally stabbed his father in Hacienda Heights Monday morning, officials said.

The shooting in the 16700 block of Dawn Haven Road occurred around 5:30 a.m. after deputies responded to a reported assault, according to Lt. Hiraka and a press release from the LASD.

Sheriff’s officials later clarified that the situation was a family disturbance and included an alleged assault with a deadly weapon.

The unidentified suspect apparently had tried to get into a neighbor’s house after the fatal stabbing.

At one point, the man was shot at least once while in front of the neighbor’s home and declared dead at the scene.

It is unclear what exactly led to the fatal encounter, and whether the suspect was still armed when he was shot.

No deputies were injured, and no further details were available.

The stabbing victim has also not been identified.
