Sheriff’s deputy seriously injured when motorcycle, big rig collide in Santa Clarita

A collision between a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department motorcycle and a big rig left a deputy seriously injured in Santa Clarita Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported about 7:20 a.m. near the intersection of Creekside Road and McBean Parkway, a tweet from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station read.

The injured deputy, later identified as Chad Perrigo by Sheriff Alex Villanueva, was transported to a local hospital. He was conducting routine patrol checks at the time of the collision.

Perrigo, a husband and father, was listed in critical but stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Aerial video from the scene showed the deputy’s badly damaged motorcycle partially wedged under the front of the big rig, which appeared to be making a left turn into a driveway at the time of the crash.

The big rig driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, officials said.

A portion of Creekside Road was shut down between McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard during the investigation.

The cause of the crash is still being determined. No further details have been released.
