An investigation into the shooting death of a woman behind the counter of a flower shop in Lennox was underway in Lennox on Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Homicide detectives responded to the store on the 10400 block of Inglewood Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to a sheriff’s news release.

A sign over the shop’s door read Floreria Mary & Party Supplies and said the business was celebrating its grand opening, footage from the scene showed.

A 57-year-old Hispanic woman working at the store was shot at least once in her upper torso, Lt. Joe Mendoza said.

She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A motive was unknown, and there was no evidence indicating a robbery was involved, Mendoza said.

The suspect in the case is a Hispanic man in his 30s, according to Mendoza.

He was last seen fleeing on foot, heading north on Inglewood Avenue before turning west on 104th Street.

The weapon used had not been recovered, officials said.

Detectives are now looking for surveillance footage to aid in their investigation.
