Streets, sidewalks, cars and businesses were submerged Friday afternoon when a 20-inch water main burst in Wilmington, authorities said.
The break was reported shortly after 2 p.m. in the 400 block of North Avalon Boulevard, and the street was closed between D and E streets.
As of about 9:45 p.m., the repair work was ongoing, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Water service to 77 customers had to be turned off as part of the repairs, which were expected to be complete by 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
Sky5 footage showed water bubbling up from the sidewalk next to a light pole.
Several inches to more than foot of water had spread to streets and businesses, and encompassed several city blocks.
No injuries were reported and the extent of damage to businesses was not immediately known.
