A suspect was arrested Tuesday after a woman was shot during a confrontation on a bus in Baldwin Park.

The shooting happened Monday aboard a Foothill Transit bus that was traveling on the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway just east of Puente Avenue at around 6 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The suspect, Juan Mario Trejo, 32, from West Covina, was riding the bus when he allegedly started arguing with the bus driver and another male passenger.

While arguing, Trejo reportedly brought out a gun as the confrontation turned physical, authorities said. The bus driver tried to calm things down, but was unsuccessful.

During the altercation, Trejo shot out several rounds from the firearm, with a bullet striking a female passenger who was not involved in the argument.

After the shots were fired, the bus driver pulled over onto the side of the freeway. The suspect exited the bus and fled the area.

Officers arrived at the scene and the injured woman was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 17 people were on board the bus when the shooting happened. The riders were later transferred to another bus.

Authorities noted there were many nearby security cameras that helped them locate and identify the suspect.

On Tuesday, Trejo was arrested in Los Angeles on charges of attempted murder. He is being held on $1 million bail.

“This individual has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement,” said CHP Lt. Saul Gomez. “We have this very dangerous individual in custody.”
