Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a motorcyclist was run over and killed in Los Angeles.
The motorcyclist was only identified as a 49-year-old man by the Los Angeles Police Department.
The crash happened on May 18 at the busy intersection of South Avenue 20 and North Broadway in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood at around 7:40 a.m.
A suspect driving a Ford pickup truck ran a red light at the intersection, causing the motorcyclist to fall off his bike and onto the roadway, police said.
The suspect did not stop and continued speeding away. Seconds later, an oncoming box truck ran over the victim’s body, authorities said.
The motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Residents in the neighborhood told KTLA the high-traffic intersection is known for dangerous drivers. Police have released surveillance images of the white Ford pickup truck involved in the deadly collision.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and
stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to
identify themselves,” said LAPD.
A reward of up to $25,000 is available to anyone who provides information leading to the suspect’s identification and apprehension. No further details on the suspect were released.
