Man accused of assaulting new mom in Brentwood released on bond

A man who was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman who was walking with a newborn baby earlier this week has been released on bond.

On Thursday, police confirmed that a suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Abraham Shily, was arrested in connection with the attack, which happened Tuesday on the 900 block of South Gretna Green Way in Brentwood.

But his time in custody was short-lived, with jail records showing he was released from custody that same day after posting $50,000 bond.

Multiple KTLA tipsters have reported that Shiley has been allowed to return to his mother’s home in the same neighborhood where the alleged attack occurred.

Carmina Lu, the mother who has come forward as the victim of the attack, described her harrowing experience to KTLA’s Carlos Saucedo.

“It was really awful,” Lu said. “I just would never expect anything like this to happen, especially one month after giving birth to a beautiful baby.”

Lu said her shirtless attacker came up from behind her, grabbed her around the hips and began sexually assaulting her. As she fought him off, he purportedly swung at her, hitting her in the face and leaving behind cuts and bruises that remained visible days later.

The ordeal came to an end after neighbors, hearing the woman’s screams, rushed to help and scared off her attacker.

Lu’s 4-week-old baby was not injured in the attack.

The mother said her sense of security near her own home has been altered for the worse, telling KTLA that she wants to be able to simply walk in her own neighborhood and feel safe about it.

“I don’t think I’m going to feel that for a while,” she said.

Her alleged attacker’s release from custody likely complicates that issue further.

The term’s of Shiley’s release were not immediately clear, but he is tentatively scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8, jail records show.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
