Suspect allegedly stole large sum of cash by posing as McAfee employee

Police are searching for a Southern California suspect who escaped with a large sum of money by posing as a McAfee worker.

The male suspect texted a victim from a “1-800” number while posing as a representative from McAfee, a computer anti-virus software program.

The man reportedly told the victim that money had been mistakenly transferred to the victim’s bank account.

The suspect said the issue needed to be resolved or the victim’s bank account would be charged for a McAfee subscription

He arranged to meet the victim in person while he posed as a McAfee employee, Burbank police said.

At the meeting, the victim, who had withdrawn a large amount of cash from their account, handed over the money that was “owed” to the suspect, authorities said.
