A Rosemead, California school was closed Friday after a student in Texas made a vague threat on social media about a shooting, officials said.
Authorities received a call around 2 a.m. Friday regarding a threat that was circulating on social media about a possible shooting at Rosemead High School, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told KTLA.
The identified threat made reference to a shooting at “RHS,” though it did not make a direct reference to Rosemead High School, the school superintendent later said in a news release.
As a precaution, classes and school events were canceled Friday at Rosemead High School.
Several agencies including the Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI investigated the threat and confirmed that the post originated in Raymondville, Texas.
It was also confirmed that the threat was not directed at Rosemead High School, the superintendent said.
The juvenile who posted the threat has been arrested for a “terroristic threat,” the local police department said.
There is no active threat to the campus, the Sheriff’s Department said, adding that there is no connection between Raymondville, Texas and Rosemead High School.
No further details were immediately available.
