Bruce Springsteen gave a young fan the thrill of a lifetime when he wrote a tardy note to the Claremont boy’s teacher explaining why the youngster may be late getting to school the morning after attending the rock star’s concert.

Xabi Glovsky, 9, and his father Scott knew it was going to be a late night school night when they attended the Springsteen concert Tuesday.

Hoping to get the singer’s attention, along with an autograph, they brought a homemade sign that read, “Bruce, I will be late to school tomorrow please sign my note.”

“I thought the chances that we would get an autograph from it, that he would sign it, would be probably be one in a thousand. I didn’t imagine, in my wildest dreams, that we could actually meet him and go backstage, Scott Glovsky said in an interview on Friday.

But that is exactly what ended up happening.

“The Boss” took notice of the father-son duo, pointed at the pair and had his bodyguards bring them backstage to Springsteen’s dressing room.

“I heard your need a note. I can help you with that,” the youngster recalled Springsteen saying to him.

The note read: “Xabi has been out late rocking and rolling. Please excuse him if he is tardy.” Springsteen signed his name at the bottom.

Even after the concert, which lasted more than 3 hours, Springsteen spent a full 15 minutes with pair. They described him as kind and gracious, and said he surpassed their expectations.

The original note sits in a safe, but the boy brought a copy to his teacher the following day.

“Apparently she was also a big Bruce Springsteen fan,” Xabi said. “The people in the office, too. They said it was like, the best tardy note of all time.”
