Thousands of customers were left without power Monday morning as a powerful storm swept across Southern California.
The rain started to fall early Monday morning and was responsible for some of the 4,798 outages experienced by Southern California Edison customers in Los Angeles County, according to the company’s website just before 9 a.m.
Weather conditions were cited for some of the 1,712 outages in Ventura County as well, according to the website.
Thousands of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers were also left without electricity as thunderstorms and rain fell Monday morning.
The bulk of the outages were reported in the Hyde Park and Vermont Vista areas, which combined for nearly 5,000 outages.
Some residents in Brentwood, Canoga Park, Mission Hills, Vermont Square and Westchester were also without power, according to the LADWP website.
Repair times ranged from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning for both companies.
The National Weather Service had to issue flash flood warnings in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties at various times as the storm system swept through the region Monday.
Even LAX reported a loss of power at one point Monday morning and had to switch to emergency generators.
