A toddler was in critical condition after being bit by a snake in Murrieta Saturday morning, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The little boy was bit near East Benton Road and Warren Road (map) around 11 a.m., the department stated in an incident fact sheet.

The snake was reported to be a rattlesnake, but officials have not confirmed its type.

The toddler was transported by air to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition, the department stated.

Officials with the the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and Riverside County Fire Department responded.
