A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department motorcycle deputy was injured in a crash that prompted a temporary road closure in Topanga Canyon early Wednesday, authorities said.
The single-vehicle collision occurred around 5 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Topanga Canyon Boulevard (map), in the unincorporated Topanga community, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The deputy, identified as Timothy White, was riding a department motorcycle when he struck a patch of gravel on the roadway and collided with the hillside.
He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, the department stated.
A SigAlert was issued for Topanga Canyon Boulevard shortly after 6:30 a.m., and the California Highway Patrol estimated that the road would be closed between Pacific Coast Highway and the 101 Freeway for about two hours, according to the incident log.
The roadway reopened about 11:15 a.m., according to a tweet from CHP Southern Division.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
