Opening arguments in the trial of a fourth man charged with the murders of a marine sergeant and his wife began Monday morning in Riverside.

Kesaun Sykes, 27, is one of four former U.S. Marines charged in the capitol murders of Marine Sgt. Jan Pietrzak, 24, and his wife Quianna Jenkins-Pietrzak, 26.

The couple was found bound, gagged, tortured and murdered in their French Valley home in 2008. Jenkins-Pietrzak had also been sexually assaulted.

In police interviews Sykes allegedly implicated himself and the three other Marines, who’ve all been convicted – two sentenced to death and one to life without parole.

Sykes’ attorney claims his client only went along for the robbery, not the rape and murders.
