Southern Californians can expect some changes in the weather over the weekend thanks to Tropical Storm Dolores, forecasters said Friday.
The former hurricane, which was located 300 nautical miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas as of 8:30 a.m., is likely to bring a threat of thunderstorms to much of the region Saturday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
“There will be the potential for brief heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding and minor mud and debris flows,” the weather service stated.
Rising humidity levels and warmer temperatures were also expected to make weather conditions a little less comfortable over the weekend.
A developing south swell from Dolores was forecast to begin arriving late Friday and continue through Tuesday with peak swells hitting Sunday and Monday, according to the weather service.
“This will likely bring elevated surf and strong rip currents to south-facing beaches,” the weather service stated.
Inexperienced swimmers were warned to stay out of the water during these periods.
