Police say they’ve arrested two in connection with a deadly shooting in Long Beach on Saturday morning.

In a news release issued Sunday, the Long Beach Police Department said officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots and a possible suspect fleeing the scene in the area of 7th Street and Maine Avenue around 10:22 a.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Despite live-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the same time, another group of officers located a suspect vehicle in the area of Anaheim Street and Pine Avenue. The two men inside the vehicle were arrested following a traffic stop, and a gun was recovered.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim, later identified as Anthony Valentino Lopez, a 27-year-old Long Beach resident, knew the suspects and was involved in a conflict with them prior to the deadly shooting.

The suspects were identified as Alejandro Lara Delgado, 33, and Xavier Alexandro Vasquez, 37. They were each arrested on suspicion of murder, and Vasquez was arrested for unrelated outstanding warrants. They’re being held at Long Beach City Jail on $2 million and $2,020,000 bail respectively.

No additional details were immediately made available.
