Los Angeles County firefighters were called to the home in the 500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West at 3:39 p.m., a Fire Department official told KTLA.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed a dark Lexus sedan on top of the red-tiled roof.

The male driver suffered some kind of medical condition that caused him to lose control in the 300 block, Capt. Mark Velez of the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department said.

The driver, whose age wasn’t known, hit two parked cars then continued down the roadway and drifted into the yard of a home. He hit a vehicle parked in the home’s driveway and was launched onto the roof of the neighbor’s garage, Velez said.

Only the driver was believed to be injured, Velez said.

A Fire Department spokesman said one patient was removed from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to a hospital.

A young woman who was in the house said the crash sounded like a train coming through, and didn’t realize there was a car on the roof until a neighbor showed her.

Multiple emergency vehicles responded, and the Fire Department’s Urban Search & Rescue team worked to secure the car so it could be removed. Video from the Fire Department showed the vehicle being lowered by crane on a heavy-duty tow truck.

The Police Department asked residents to avoid about a 1-mile section of Palos Verdes Drive West and expect detours.

The roadway, a key route through that section of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, had reopened by 6:15 p.m., police said.
