Video Captures CHP Patrol Car Exploding in San Francisco

A California Highway Patrol officer was injured after a patrol car caught fire and exploded late Monday in the Treasure Island area of San Francisco, according to CNN.

The incident, which was partially captured on video by a passerby, began when the officer noticed smoke coming from the truck of his car while he was driving on the eastern span of the Bay Bridge, the cable channel reported.

The officer pulled off at the Treasure Island exit and got out of the vehicle moments before it erupted in flames.

A short time later, the trunk of the car exploded, video shot by Sejim Lim and obtained by CNN showed.

Another CHP officer who responded to the scene was injured when he was hit by falling debris from the explosion, according to the news organization. His injuries were not considered serious.

Neither of the officers have been identified.

It was not immediately known what caused the car to catch fire and explode.
