Vigil Held for Abducted Infant Found Dead in Trash Can Hours After Parents Were Shot

Three-week-old Eliza Delacruz is seen in a family photo released by authorities.

A vigil was held Friday for a 3-week-old girl whose body was found in a San Diego County dumpster a day after she was taken from a Long Beach home.

Eliza Delacruz was kidnapped after a shooting that left her parents and uncle wounded. Hours later, the girl’s body was discovered inside a plastic bag that had been dumped in a trash can in the San Diego area.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family of 3-week-old Eliza Delacruz.

“To take a precious child from home, throw her in a dumpster like a piece of trash is something only a very heartless person would do,” Long Beach police Chief Robert Luna said at a Monday afternoon news conference.

Her killer remained on the loose Friday.

Police said they had no motive or suspects in the shooting or the girl’s death.

Supervisor Don Knabe introduced a motion on Tuesday to offer a $25,000 reward in the case, calling Delacruz’s death a “heinous crime.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
