A stretch of Sunset Boulevard was shut down for hours in both directions in West Hollywood early Wednesday after a vehicle sheared a hydrant and crashed into a pole.

Witnesses who reported the collision shortly after 2 a.m. near Roxbury Road told authorities that the car was speeding at the time, according to Lt. McGaley of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s West Hollywood Station.

It then flipped over, McGaley said.

Five people inside the vehicle were injured and transported to Cedars Sinai Hospital, according to McGaley. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The collision prompted the closure of Sunset Boulevard in both directions for several hours. All lanes were reopened around 5 a.m., video from the scene showed.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

KTLA’s Alberto Mendez contributed to this story.
