A woman is dead and a man suffered critical injuries after the two were allegedly brutally stabbed by their own son Friday night, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Yihong Peng, 30, is accused of fatally stabbing his mother, Wei Ping Shen, 59, and leaving his father critically injured from the attack, officials said. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene in the area of Ortega Highway and La Novia Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.
The father is only being identified by authorities as a man in his fifties.
Deputies had received a call about a man in the street armed with a knife, officials said. The attack begun just outside a home, and when deputies got to the scene, they found a woman and man with stab wounds and saw the suspect trying to flee, officials said.
A short foot pursuit soon followed and Peng was taken into custody, authorities said. A knife was found at the scene.
Peng has since been booked on a murder charge and is being held on $1 million bail, the Sheriff’s Department said.
While the woman was confirmed dead at the scene, sheriff’s deputies said the man is expected to survive. Deputies and fire officials had performed “extensive life- saving efforts” on the woman, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The motive behind the attack and other circumstances in the case are still being investigated by homicide detectives with the Sheriff’s Department.
